Charles J. “Junie” Gladfelter, 78, of Hanover, passed peacefully, Tuesday evening, May 15, 2012 at home, after a courageous 13 year battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Nancy L. (Bange) Gladfelter for 57 years.
Born October 28, 1933 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Rosa (Ecker) Gladfelter.
Junie enjoyed bowling, playing pool and playing cards with his brothers, nephews and friends. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he devoted much of his life to being a caregiver to his handicapped daughter. He was a life member of the McSherrystown Home Assn. and was employed with Utz Quality Foods for 25 years retiring in 1995.
Additional survivors include his three children; Lucinda Gladfelter, Hanover, Sheri Hartman and her husband Donald, Spring Grove and Travis Gladfelter, Hanover, two grandchildren; Erika and Nicholas Hartman, eight siblings; Betty Hyde, Kathryn Helwig, Patricia Shaffer, Nancy Leese, Vickie Roser, Dorothy Hammond, Jack Gladfelter and Robert Gladfelter all of Hanover, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Gladfelter, and four sisters; Charlotte Smith, Janet Brady, Lana Miller and Shirley Gladfelter.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm Friday at Marburg Memorial Gardens, corner of Black Rock Rd. and Grandview Rd., Hanover, PA with Pastor Ed Brower officiating.
