Harold Joseph Sanders, 91 of Westminster, MD entered God’s eternal care Thursday, July 12, 2012 at the Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of 68 years to Alma B. (Crites) Sanders, Westminster, MD.
Born September 19, 1920 in Bonneauville, PA, he was the son of the late Guy David and Cora Virginia (Kebil) Sanders.
Harold was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Roman Catholic Church, Manchester, MD. He was self-employed as a poultry farmer. Harold was a WW II U.S. Army Veteran and was on the construction crew of the great Alaska Highway as a lineman in Alaska and the Yukon in 1943 – 1944.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Harold J. “Sandy” Sanders, Jr. and his wife Debra, Westminster; Thomas R. Sanders and his wife Hope Elizabeth, Hanover; one brother: Donald B. Sanders, Glen Rock, PA; four grandchildren: Christy Smith, Layle LaFever, Rachel Dutterer and Jennifer Stewart; also 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
He was preceded in death by 6 sisters: Emma Mae Wagner, Madeline Reaver, Mary Agnes, Mary Elizabeth Sanders, Myrtle H. Johns and Doris M. Smith; 5 brothers: Paul G., Eugene D., Henry J., Richard H. and Wilbur F. Sanders.
A funeral Liturgy will be recited on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 549 Carlisle Street, Hanover, PA 17331 with Deacon Dan Richards of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hanover officiating. A time to share memories and have an opportunity to view will be from 10:00 – 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. David’s Cemetery, Hanover.
