Gehrie Bair, Jr., 82, of Hanover entered into God's eternal care on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at the York Hospital.
Born May 8, 1930, in Hellam Township, PA., he was the son of the late Gehrie B. and Mary (Leland) Bair of Hanover, PA. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Wilma L. (Snyder) Bair, in 2006.
Gehrie was preceded in death by one son, Gehrie A.” Ted” Bair of Harrisonburg, VA and one brother, Ralph Bair of Hanover, PA.
Gehrie was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was employed for 46 years by Teledyne Readco, York, PA, before retiring to care for his wife through a lengthy illness until her passing.
Surviving him are his daughter-in-law, Alice (Wolfe) Bair of Harrisonburg, VA, daughter Robin R. Baummer and her husband Tony, of Spring Grove, PA, son Randy A. Bair and wife Carol “Sam” Bair, of Hanover, PA, and daughter Sherry L. Heflin, of York, PA.
Additionally, he is survived by eight grandchildren, Ashley B. and husband, Justin L. Hill of Harrisonburg, VA, Gehrie "Mac" and wife, Melanie E. Bair of Dayton, VA.; Ross M. and wife, Julia L. Bair of Manassas, VA., Kari D. and husband Shawn Guyton of Spring Grove, PA, Lisa M. and husband Michael Sterner of Spring Grove, PA, Joshua Baummer of Spring Grove, PA, Cara M. and husband James C. Walthall of Lancaster, PA and Angela G. and husband James R.. Spalding of Gettysburg, PA.
He was blessed with and 16 beautiful great-grandchildren, Kaytlynn, Kaylee, Tyler and Kyrstin Hill of Harrisonburg, VA, Gehrie “Cooper“, Rowan and Grady Bair of Dayton, VA, Libby and Nate Bair of Manassas, VA, Rylie and Chase Guyton of Spring Grove, PA, Cameron and Cole Sterner of Spring Grove, PA and Luke and Drew Heflin and Quyn Walthall of Lancaster, PA.
The funeral service will be held at 11:45AM on Saturday, March 9 at the Wetzel Funeral Home, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, with The Rev. Craig Arentz officiating. The viewing will be from 10:30 AM until the time of the service at the Wetzel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hanover Area Council of Churches, Meals on Wheels Program, 136 Carlisle Street, PO Box 1561, Hanover, PA 17331. Cards can be sent to the Bair family at 1459 Krafts Mill Road, Spring Grove, PA 17362.
