Obituary

Allan Russell Smith, Sr., 67, of Manchester, formerly of Hanover, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 25, 2020 after an eight-year battle with COPD. He was the loving husband of Nancy Lee (Clas) Smith; together they would have celebrated 43 years of marriage this upcoming Valentine's day.

Born Wednesday, October 7, 1953 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Russell B., Jr. and Dolores M. (Hoffheins) Smith.

Allen grew up in Hanover and during high school he worked at Gino's, where he first saw his future wife Nancy. He went on to graduate from York VO TECH in 1971 while working at Doubleday and then finally finding his career at Hanover foods where he met Nancy and they would go on to share 42 wonderful years of marriage. Allan would work at Hanover foods for 37 years before retiring.

Allan was a loving husband and father; he cherished his family and loved spending time with them. Mr. Smith had many hobbies to keep himself busy in retirement some of which included, painting, wood working, carpentry, playing bingo, hunting, fishing and watching his beloved Baltimore Ravens.

In addition to his wife, Allan is survived by his children, Allan Russell Smith, Jr. of New Oxford, Brian Keith Stewart and his wife Tiny of York, Brenda Marie Mummert and her husband Todd of Spring Grove, Cheryl Lee Rohrbaugh and her husband Adam of Spring Grove, Cindy Stem and her husband Bill of Felton; a sister, Ruth L. Shaffer and her husband Randy L. of Hanover, a sister in law, Phyllis Henderson of WV; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and one more great grandchild due here in June. Mr. Smith is also survived by many loving family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Allan was preceded in death by a sister, Susan M. (Smith) Cooper.

There will be no public viewing. A graveside service to celebrate the life of Allan will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Immanuel Cemetery, 3338 Locust St., Manchester, MD 21102 with Rev. John Rudolph officiating.
