Obituary

Alma Blanche (Crites) Sanders, 97 of Westminster, MD went home peacefully with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at UPMC Pinnacle, Hanover.  She was the devoted wife of the late Harold J. Sanders for 68 years before his passing on July 12, 2012.

Born June 1, 1921 in Moorefield, W.Va. she was a daughter of the late Boyd and Julia J. (Strawderman) Crites.

Alma was a member of St. David's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hanover.  She was a loving mother and self-employed poultry/layer farmer along with her husband Harold.  She was an excellent cook who somehow always found time to serve the numerous relatives who loved to visit the farm.  She also enjoyed helping with PAL lunch program for many years.

Alma is survived by two sons: Harold J. Sanders, Jr. and his wife Debra, of Westminster and Thomas R. Sanders and his wife Hope Elizabeth, of Hanover; also survived by 4 granddaughters, 11 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Ralph, Ted, Dave and Paul; and 5 sisters, Edna, Margaret, Lena, Helen and Mary.

A service to celebrate the life of Alma Sanders will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle Street, Hanover with Pastor LaDonna Thomas officiating.  A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be from 10:00 – 11:00am Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will be in St. David's Cemetery, Hanover.
