Obituary

Our dear Mother, Alverta M. (McWilliams) Arthur, left us peacefully to go to her eternal home with Jesus at the wise age of 96 on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at her home in Hanover. She was the loving wife of the late Guy L. Arthur; together they shared many wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 1990.

Born on Sunday, January 9, 1927, in York County.  She was a daughter of the late Raymond E. and Viola (Laughman) McWilliams and stepdaughter of the late Charles Heldibridle.

She was a wonderful, loving mother, who was always faithfully there when we needed her.  Dutifully loving and living for God and her children with a warm heart.  Her strength and love for her children was unwavering. She was a sharp woman, quick witted, and never failed to put a smile on everyone's face. Her favorite hobbies were reading her bible/books, crocheting, playing games, cuddling with her dogs and watching funny animal videos.  She had a huge heart for animals and loved and treated them like they were her children.

Don't think of her as gone away, her journey has just begun. Life holds so many facets, this earth is only one. Just think of her as resting, from the sorrow and tears. In a place of warmth and comfort, where there are no days and years. Think how she must be wishing that we could know today, how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. And think of her as living, in the hearts of those she touched. For nothing loved is ever lost, and she is loved so very much."

Alverta is survived by her six children Barbara Starner of Hanover, Barry Arthur and his wife Sue of New Oxford, Beverley Chenoweth and her husband Jim of Hanover, Bonnie Arthur of Hanover, Brenda Stauffer of Hanover, Beth Patrick and her husband Jerry of Hanover; nine grandchildren, Angela Boswell, Jake Garland, Christopher Garland, Eric Becker, Jennifer Clouser, Phillip Arthur, Mandy Six, Gloria Rhodes, Melissa Payne; 14 great grandchild, all of whom will forever cherish her memory.

Mrs. Arthur is also survived by her half siblings Richard, Terry, and Keith Heldibridle, Emma Little and Sandra Laughman.

In addition to her parents and husband, Alverta was greeted in heaven by four brothers, Serling, Theodore, John and Floyd McWilliams; a sister, Freda Mays; three grandchildren, Ken Berwager, Benjamin Arthur, Rebecca Clouser and one great grandchild Elijah Guy Boswell.

A service to celebrate the life of Alverta will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 14, 2023, at the Wetzel Funeral Home & Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover with the Rev. Fred Mummert officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and then again on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
