Anton "Bud", "Rosebud" Endler, formerly of Westminster, MD, currently of Homewood of Plum Creek, Hanover, PA died May 23, 2023. He was the husband of Marie Walz Endler for 60 years, and is survived by daughters, Carol Oakes of Westminster, Jeanette Bangs of Blanchard, Idaho and Anita Ashton of Spring Grove, PA. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He is also survived his companion, Rita Kirsch of Plum Creek.
Born July 21, 1928 in Baltimore, he was the son of Anton John, and Gertrude (Witman) Endler.
He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, where he earned letters in Track and Cross Country, and John's Hopkins University with BS and Masters degrees.
He retired from the Maryland National Guard after 22 years as Executive Officer of the 110th Field Artillery BN. In addition to serving as a senior aid to the 29th Infantry Division Commander he commanded three Artillery Batteries. He was a member of the 29th Infantry Division Association and a member of Larkspur Post #110 and a member of the 110th Field Artillery Old Timers.
He retired from the Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. after 46 years of service (1946-1992) where he began as an office boy and retired in 1992 as Personnel Director. He was the company's first Educational Coordinator and Employee Grievance Coordinator. He initiated many programs including an Accident Prevention program, reducing accidents from 800 per year to less than 100 per year.
Bud was known for his rigorous sense of fairness and consistency in treatment of employees and a person whose word you could trust and on whose advice you could rely. This brought him respect from both management and employees.
While working with the BG&E, he volunteered with the Baltimore City School system, Greater Baltimore Committee, and Volunteer Council on Equal Opportunity, Morgan State University Foundation, New Direction for Women.
He was also President of the Mountain Club of Maryland and was an avid hiker.
After retirement he served on the Carroll Hospital Foundation and Medical Committee of the Board, the Carroll Country Farm Museum Board, and co-founded the Man to Man Prostate Support Group for Carroll Hospital and Hanover Hospital.
While living at Homewood at Plum Creek, he served as President of the Residents Association and of the Chapel Advisory Committee. He was the leader of the Men's Group Planning Committee for 10 years. He was also a part of the Model Railroad Group and founded the Homewood Joyful Singers and Employee Appreciation Fund.
He was a Boumi Shrine Clown for 33 years, a member of the Mid Atlantic Shrine Clown Association, served as the General Chairman for two Clown-A-Ramas, International Shrine Clown Association, Idaho Clowns and the Royal Order of Jesters.
A memorial service to celebrate Bud's life will be held at 11am on Friday, June 9th at the Homewood at Plum Creek Chapel; 425 Westminster Avenue in Hanover. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 10am until the start of the service.
