She is also survived by three step-children: Beverly (Gaylor) Perella, Diane (Gaylor) Ferrara and her husband Robert, and Richard "Rick" Gaylor, all of the Reading area; plus eight step-grandchildren: Timothy Perella and his late wife Sheryl, Andrew Perella and his wife Valerie, Samantha Wiley and her husband Christopher, Rachel Gatto and her husband Eric and Erika, Elisha, Mickey (wife Katie) and Johanna Gaylor, as well as many loving step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons: David Alvin Frey and Duane Alan Frey; her first husband, Walter A. Frey; her brother, Gerald Hempfing and her great-granddaughter, Piper Jo Buboltz-Dubs.
Betty started working at a very young age of 10, picking green beans in the local fields. As a teenager, she worked at Snyder's of Hanover. She was a wonderful seamstress who made many of her children's clothing and that of her own and spent many years working in the local shoe factories and later in life worked as a seamstress in the upholstery industry until her retirement at age 60.
Her love, warmth, and unwavering devotion to her family will be remembered fondly, and the legacy of her love, faith, and strength will continue to inspire her family and those who were fortunate enough to have known her. She found great joy in spending time with her family, cherishing every moment of their time together. Some of her fondest memories were made while baking cookies and pumpkin pies or jarring beets in her kitchen with her children and grandchildren; sitting on her son and daughter in laws back porch on a sunny afternoon enjoying the beauty of the gardens and watching the hummingbirds frolic around, or just spending time with family and friends who stopped by to visit. Betty loved to shop and enjoyed her many trips to the local malls as well as the yearly trips to Williamsburg VA with her church friends and family. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting events, musicals and plays at their local schools. Betty played the piano and accordion, and teaching her grandson how to play the accordion and making music together with him in church particularly thrilled her heart.
Betty was a member of Grace Bible Church located in Manchester, MD for many years and in recent years, she became a member of Hanover First Church of God, located in Hanover, Pennsylvania. Betty's faith in God was her strength and her love for the Lord was evident in all that she did. She loved gospel music and faithfully watched the Gaither Vocal Band and Bill Gaither's Homecoming Gospel shows on TV daily. She attended as many of their concerts as she was able and especially loved Gene McDonald's bass singing. She taught her family to depend on the Lord and spread those seeds to her children and grandchildren, using every opportunity she had to take them to church.
Betty may be gone from our sight but will always be remembered in our hearts. She was the best mother, grandmother and hero anyone could ask for.
