Betty L. (Collins) Ruhlman, wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on August 17, 2023 at the age of 93.
Born September 29, 1929 in Littlestown, PA, Betty was the daughter of the late Mervin R. and Phoebe J. (Bull) Collins. She was devoted to her late husband, Kenneth (Ken) P. Ruhlman, for 63 years until his passing on April 6, 2016. For 57 years, Betty worked with Ken in the family business, Hanover Potato Products. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her four siblings, Francis Collins, Emma Lapham, Ralph Collins, Marie Myers, and their husbands and wives.
As a member of the Eichelberger High School Class of 1947, Betty was a member of the Delphin Society, a service organization at school. Upon graduation and throughout the rest of her life, Betty supported her community. She was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Hanover and a Sunday School teacher in the Nursery. She was a member of the YWCA Y-Wives and served as Past President. She was also the Charter President and longtime member of the Hanover Lioness Club. Additionally, she belonged to the Hanover Soroptimist Club and for 20 years, a member of the Two Wheelers bicycle group.
Betty adored her family and the time spent with them. She is survived by her two daughters, Melissa Ruhlman Storm and her husband, John, of Hanover and Kendra Ruhlman Kauffman and her husband, Jeffrey, of Spring Grove. She was a proud and loving grandmother to her two grandsons, Christopher Storm of Lancaster and Matthew Storm and his wife, Rebecca, of Pottstown.
Additionally, Betty was thankful for the Visiting Angels and other caregivers who supported her toward the end of her life. Her family also is grateful for the family, friends, and caregivers who loved and supported Betty.
A memorial service to celebrate Betty's life will take place on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace United Church of Christ located at 100 Fourth Street, Hanover PA. Friends and loved ones will have the opportunity to pay their respects during a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. The Reverend Dr. Bruce P. Bouchard will officiate the service.
A private burial will take place at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA at a later date.
The family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to the Organ Fund at Grace United Church of Christ, 100 Fourth Street, Hanover PA.
