Obituary

Beverly A. Bechtel, 87, of Gettysburg, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday, November 1st, 2024. She was the beloved wife of 65 years to the late Guy Bechtel Sr., who passed away on January 19th, 2021.

Born September 22, 1937, in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Leroy H. and Bernice A. (Berkheimer) Wildasin.

Mrs. Bechtel graduated from Eichelberger High School in 1955 then graduated from School of Practical Nursing at Baltimore City Hospital in 1956. She served others in the healthcare profession as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 44 years, retiring in 2000. She is fondly remembered as a highly organized and resilient woman who valued cleanliness and maintained a disciplined schedule in her daily activities and taking care of her family. She also loved to read, spend time with her cat, Angus and enjoy her favorite snack of cheese curls.

Beverly is survived by three children: Ann Glacken and husband David of Gettysburg, Lynn Bechtel of Gettysburg, and David Bechtel of Tennessee; two grandchildren: Joshua Glacken and Katelyn Glacken; three great-grandchildren: Adaline Glacken, D'Angelo Green and Mollie Glacken; one sister, Mary Staub; her beloved cat, Angus, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Guy Bechtel, Jr. and her sister, Phyllis Wildasin.

A memorial service to celebrate Beverly's life will be held at 12noon on Wednesday, November 6th, 2024, at Wetzel Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.; 549 Carlisle St. in Hanover with Rev. Cindy Orewiler officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Dubs Church Cemetery in Hanover. A time to share memories and gather with the family will also be on Wednesday at the funeral home from 11am until the start of the service.
