Beverly J.
"Bev" Snyder
Aug 18, 1935 — Dec 27, 2024
Beverly J. Bortner-Snyder, 89 went to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 27, 2024, passing peacefully surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Eugene Snyder.
Her mother, Georganna, and all eight of her siblings were waiting at the gates of heaven to welcome her home.
She was born Aug. 18,1935, in New Chester, PA, to Georganna Groupe and was one of nine children. She would be very quick to tell you she was the baby. She was a very strong, determined & faithful lady who overcame many obstacles throughout her life. In her younger days, Bev loved to go roller skating at Forest Park with her siblings. As her life progressed, she enjoyed driving the starting car for pony races & loved Elvis Presley. She & Gene enjoyed cruises, playing cards, dancing & faithfully attending Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church. They loved their church family.
Bev's passion early in life was to care for people. She achieved that by beginning her career as a nurse's aide at Hanover Hospital and becoming an LPN. She later continued her career with Dr. Thomassy for many years. She ended her working days at the Brethren Home but never stopped caring & asking if you were okay. She loved people, loved to laugh and never met a stranger. Throughout her life her favorite hair stylist was her daughter, Tammy. Most recently, her two favorite things to do were weekly Saturday visits to Hanover Market & Starlight Diner with her son Steve and going for drives looking for deer with her daughter Bonnie. Most of all, she loved and cherished any and all time with her family.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She will be especially missed by her three children: Steven Bortner and wife Cindy, Tammy Wertz and husband Phil, Bonnie Naill and husband Wyn; Grandchildren: Cory (Melissa), Ryan (Heather), Nathan (Megan), Sara (Nick), Kaitlyn (Andrew), Mackenzie (Jeff); Great-Grandchildren: Kiersten, Emma Rose, Jackson, Evelyn, Caleb. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene & siblings; Nadine, Delores, Ruth, Freda, Phil, Ted, Fred & Bud.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to our in-home caregivers who became a part of our family and loved and cared for her unconditionally. Also, to the VNA who helped us through this difficult time with such compassion & understanding.
Following cremation, there will be a celebration of life service at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 11, 2024, at Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church with Deacon Jan Davis officiating. There will be visitation from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be private at Saint John's United Church of Christ Cemetery in New Chester.
Donations in memory of Bev can be made to Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church, 1398 Moulstown Road, Hanover, PA 17331 or to the Visiting Nurse Association of Hanover and Spring Grove, 440 Madison St., Hanover, PA 17331.
