Obituary

Brenda E. (Bastress) Kennedy, 64, of Dover, peacefully entered into God's eternal care on Monday, August 26, 2024, at York Hospital. She was the cherished fiancé of David Romo, with whom she shared a life full of love, laughter, and unwavering support.

Born on Saturday, July 9, 1960, in York, Brenda was the beloved daughter of the late William G. and Shirley E. (Klinefelter) Bastress.

Brenda was deeply devoted to her faith and her community at Cross Keys Fellowship, where she found spiritual fulfillment and meaningful connections. She was passionate about attending Bible studies, always eager to deepen her understanding of scripture, and she generously gave her time and energy to volunteer for church activities. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and her contributions to her church family will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Above all, Brenda was a woman who lived for her family. She poured her heart and soul into creating a warm and loving home, where her children, grandchildren, and extended family always felt welcome. Her home was a place of gathering, especially during holidays, where Brenda's culinary talents shone. The aroma of her delicious meals and baked goods filled the air, a testament to her love for cooking and her desire to bring joy to those she held dear. Whether it was a sleepover with her grandchildren or a festive family dinner, Brenda's home was always filled with love, laughter, and the comforting sense of togetherness that she so cherished.

Brenda faced many challenges in her life, but she always maintained a positive and faithful attitude, a testament to her resilience and strength of character. She worked tirelessly, holding multiple jobs to ensure that her family was well taken care of, all while maintaining her kind and generous spirit. Brenda's love for yard sales was well-known, and she delighted in finding hidden treasures, often sharing her finds with those she loved.

In addition to her beloved fiancé David, Brenda leaves behind a legacy of love through her daughters, Shannon O. Avery of Lancaster and Cheyenne A. Kennedy of Dover, along with Cheyenne's companion Hunter Moffitt. She was a proud and doting grandmother to Cierra Kennedy, Haley Kennedy, David Kennedy III, Summer Avery, Taylor Avery, Riley Avery, and Kayden Kennedy, who will carry forward her memory with fondness and admiration. She is also survived by her siblings, Denny Bastress, Cary Bastress, and Cherie Clark, as well as many extended family members and dear friends who will forever remember her warmth, kindness, and generosity.

Brenda was preceded in death by her son, David A. Kennedy Jr., and her brother, George Bastress. Though they are no longer with us, the love she held for them endures in the hearts of those who remain.

A celebration of Brenda's life will be held at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Cross Keys Fellowship, 785 Berlin Rd, New Oxford, PA, with Pastor Dave Karn officiating.
