Catherine Louise (Nicodemus) Shirk, 95, of Hanover PA passed away peacefully at home on Friday October 6, 2023. She was the loving wife of the late Clinton Elery Shirk; together they shared 43 years of marriage before his passing in 1993.

Born March 21st, 1928 in Woodbury PA, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Clarence and Catherine Margaret (Fouse) Nicodemus.

She graduated from Morrison Cove Vocational High School in 1946 and her first job was as a telephone operator in the days when you needed to speak with the operator to make a call. She later retired from the Baltimore County School System where she served as a cafeteria worker for many years.

Louise along with her husband Clinton was very active in the Church of the Brethren, serving over the years as a Deaconess, Pianist, Soloist and Choir Director at the Reisterstown and Woodbury MD Parishes.

Louise is survived by her 3 children Karen L. McKinstry and her husband Don of Baltimore MD, C. Brian Shirk and his wife Melinda, and C. Edward Shirk and his wife Jennifer, both of Hanover PA. In addition, she is survived by 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Louise was preceded in death by her four brothers Harold R. Nicodemus, Glenn J. Nicodemus, Eugene C. Nicodemus, and Frank F. Nicodemus.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Louise will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023 at the Hanover Church of the Brethren, 601 Wilson Ave. Hanover with Pastor Mark Bowyer and Pastor Gerry Godfrey officiating. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Immediately following the service the family will receive friends with light refreshments at the fellowship hall at the church. Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, 11501 Garrison Forest Rd, Owings Mills, MD 21117. Serving as pallbearers will be Nick Shirk, Clayton Shirk, Spencer Shirk, and Alex Kambouris.
