Obituary

Chad S. Bechtel, 47, of East Berlin, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He was the devoted husband of Kimberly S. (Smith) Bechtel. Together, they shared a loving marriage and would have celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on July 12, 2025.

Born December 11, 1977, in Hanover, he was the beloved son of Barry A. and Kimberley A. (Bunty) Bechtel of East Berlin.

Chad was raised in Brodbecks, York County, and graduated from Bermudian Springs High School with the Class of 1996. After graduation, he began working alongside his father at Barry Bechtel General Contractor as a Heavy Equipment Operator, dedicating the past 30 years to the family business. Chad was an exceptionally hardworking man, blessed with many talents. He had a natural gift for fixing things, whether mechanical or structural, and could find a solution to almost any problem. That same talent extended beyond the job site, as he was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, even complete strangers. Whether someone was broken down on the side of the road or in a parking lot, Chad wouldn't hesitate to help. His selflessness, generosity, and can-do spirit touched countless lives.

Above all else, Chad was a devoted husband and father. He cherished his wife and children and held his family at the center of his world. He will be remembered not only for his skills and work ethic but for his unwavering love and loyalty to those he cared about.

In addition to his parents and wife, Chad is survived by his three children, Tyler A. Bechtel, Trever A. Bechtel, and Tayler A. Bechtel, all of East Berlin; his brother, Timothy A. Bechtel and his wife Heather of East Berlin; his sister, Amy Bechtel of New Oxford; and many loving extended family members and friends.

A service to celebrate Chad's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle Street, Hanover, with Rev. Scott A. Sager officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be held on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in East Berlin Union Cemetery, East Berlin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Chad's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
