Obituary

Charles ("Chuck") Michael Bona, 78, of Hanover, formerly of Sykesville, MD, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at home. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Beckley) Bona; together they shared 36 years of happy marriage.

In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by his son, Charles Durand (Randy) Bona of Randallstown, his son, Daniel Bona and wife Kate of Ellicott City, his daughter, Erica (Bona) Smith and her husband Mike, his two granddaughters, Grace Bona and Patience Bona, two grandsons, Corrado (Cory) Bona and James Bona and great-grandson, Angelo Bona Villa.

Born July 12, 1943 in Little Italy, Baltimore, he was a son of the late Daniel J. and Rose (Granese) Bona. He worked as a computer programmer for 40 years at the Social Security Administration Headquarters. Chuck loved travelling and music, but his favorite pastime was spending time with his family.  He was happiest when attending family barbeques, dinners or just hanging out.  In addition to being with his family, Chuck loved sports, especially soccer.  Whether playing soccer himself, coaching the kids' local school teams or travelling around the country following the US Women's' Soccer team, Chuck enjoyed all aspects of the game. Chuck also loved Italian cooking.  His specialty, enjoyed by all, was his homemade manicotti and stuffed calamari.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Dean Bona and his dear friends, Jim Owens, Fred Michaelson and Jack Fox.

There will be no public viewing. Following cremation the family will have a private burial at Gardens of Faith Memorial Gardens in Baltimore, MD, at a later date.
