Daniel Joseph O'Brien, Sr. Memorial Video

Daniel Joseph O'Brien, Sr., 85, of Hanover, PA, formerly of Woodlawn, MD, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 14, 2022, at UPMC Pinnacle, Hanover, PA. He was the loving husband of Shirley (Gillespie) O'Brien.

Born December 15, 1936, in Lansdale, PA, he was a son of the late Thomas and Ellen (Bowker) O'Brien.

Danny served 9 years in the Army National Guard. He was a self-employed auto mechanic and gas station owner of O'Brien's Garage, Woodlawn, MD, for 37 years until retiring in 1989. Danny was a lifetime member of the Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Laurel, MD. After retiring from the gas station business, he went on to work at Finch Services of Westminster, MD, where he suffered an on-the-job accident. Danny retired again, until he went back to work with Weis Food Markets of Hanover, PA.

In addition to his wife, Danny is survived by four children, Laura Becker (Kirk) of Manchester, MD, Deborah Simpson (Blaine) of Summit Point, WV, Daniel "Bo" O'Brien Jr. (Davida) of New Oxford, PA, and Sandra Hornbaker (Christopher) of Hanover, PA; nine grandchildren, Christina Becker, Heather Hoffman, Sarah Easley, Donald "DJ" Becker, Jr., Wesley Turner, Owen Turner, Shaina Ballard, Morgan Simpson, and Brianna O'Brien; five great grandchildren, Ryleigh Hoffman, Kayden Easley, John Hoffman, Rowen Becker, and Reagan Hoffman; two siblings, Ellen Hughes and John O'Brien; and three boys, who Danny loved like his grandchildren, Jacob, Justin, and Jeremy Lankford. Danny is also survived by his loving dog, "Baby" O'Brien.

In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his infant daughter and six of his siblings.

A Funeral Liturgy to celebrate the life of Danny will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 21, 2022, at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and then again on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lorraine Park Cemetery, Baltimore, MD. Pallbearers will be "Bo" O'Brien, "DJ" Becker, Wesley Turner, Owen Turner, Patrick O'Brien, Ray Cross, Kirk Becker, Blaine Simpson, Christopher Hornbaker and John O'Brien.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children.
