Darlene M.
"Dee" Strevig
Aug 1, 1952 — Jul 14, 2025
Darlene M. "Dee" (Smith) Strevig, 72, of Hanover, PA, formerly of Hampstead, MD, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, July 14, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of Gerald L. "Gerry" Strevig, Jr. Although they were married in 2018, Darlene and Gerry shared 19 wonderful years together.
Born on August 1, 1952, in Hampstead, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Robert E. and Dorothy (Wisner) Smith. Darlene was raised in the Hampstead area and graduated from North Carroll High School, Class of 1971.
She dedicated 38 years of service to the Carroll County Sheriff's Department, where she worked as a secretary to the warden. Darlene was known for her warm heart and unwavering commitment to her family—her greatest joy in life was spending time with and caring for those she loved.
She had a passion for riding motorcycles with her husband. The two would often set out with no destination in mind, simply enjoying the open road together on their Harley. A woman of deep faith, Darlene was a member of Lazarus United Church of Christ, where she found comfort and strength in her spiritual life. She also had a special love for her two dogs, Gunner and Tucker, who brought her daily joy.
In addition to her husband, Darlene is survived by her daughter, Kelly Beam of Westminster; her sisters, Sandy Nash and husband John of Hampstead, and Debbie Lare and husband Tom of Hanover; her nieces, Sheli Lowe and husband Jeff, Kristy Sheppard and husband Jason, and Angie Phillips and husband Buzz; two granddaughters; her mother-in-law, Martha Hann; and many loving extended family members and friends.
In accordance with Darlene's wishes, there will be no public viewing or services. Following cremation, the family will hold a private burial at St. David's Cemetery in Hanover with Pastor Rodney C. Gross officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Darlene's memory may be made to the Lazarus United Church of Christ Altar Flower Fund, 5101 S. Church Street, Lineboro, MD 21102.
