Obituary

Darlene W. "Frosty" Lighty, 92 of New Oxford entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at the Cross Keys Village Brethren Home.  She was the beloved wife of Verdene K. "Dean" Lighty.

Born July 7 th , 1929 in Flint, MI, she was a daughter of the late Dorothy E. (Bryant) and Irving Frost.

Darlene proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years, including during the Korean Conflict as an Air Traffic Controller with extensive training pertaining to night flights as pilots practiced carrier landings on duel parallel runways.  She was also the recipient of the American Spirit Award, 3 good conduct medals, and earned a Senior Control Operations License from the FAA.  Before going into the Navy, Darlene worked for a doctor in Michigan as a medical assistant and assisted with minor surgeries, tonsillectomies, giving shots and also assisted with examinations.  She met her husband while serving in the military.  He was in meteorology and they both served together in Hawaii for 4 years until orders sent them to separate duty stations.  For a time they served in different locations until new orders would bring them together again. Later in life, Darlene attended and supported Hanover 1 st Church of God.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Lighty is survived by her sister, Delayne K. Morgan of Michigan and her nephew, Timothy B. Morgan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Albert Gordon.

A committal service with military honors to celebrate Darlene's life will be held on Wednesday, January 19 th at 2:30 pm at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery; Indiantown Gap Rd. in Annville, PA with Pastor Dan Thomas officiating.  Guest are encouraged to arrive at the cemetery by 2:00 pm.
