David L. Ports, 74, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at his home after a 2-year battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer. He was the loving husband of Jean Meng.

Born June 20, 1952, in Hanover, David was the son of the late Dean L. and Helen L. (Hamme) Ports.

Born and raised in Hanover, Dave graduated from South Western High School with the Class of 1970. During his high school years, he participated in track, where his speed served him well. He worked as a printer at Eisenhart Wallpaper for 34 years before continuing his career at Rx Systems, retiring in 2023.

Dave’s life reflected a spirit of adventure, patience, and determination. In his younger years, he enjoyed skydiving. He was also an avid hunter and competitive pistol shooter, earning several trophies. A skilled and dedicated builder, Dave spent five years constructing a log cabin using trees gathered from neighboring properties. He later devoted 10 years to building a timber-frame home, both lasting expressions of his craftsmanship and perseverance.

In his later years, Dave enjoyed traveling and discovering new places with his wife. Their journeys included two trips to China, as well as visits to Yellowstone National Park, Glacier National Park, and Jackson Hole.

In addition to his Jean. David is survived by his daughter, Beck Foltz, her husband, Matt Foltz, and his grandson Briar Foltz, of Spring Grove; his sister, Dianne L. Croft, and her companion, Craig Ryon, of Spring Grove; his brother, James M. Ports, and his companion, Cherie Link, of Aspers; and loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

A service to celebrate David’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA, with the Reverend Jason Northridge officiating. Viewings and opportunities to share memories with the family will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, September 24, from 6 to 8 p.m., and on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Marburg Memorial Gardens, Hanover. Pallbearers will be Matt Foltz, Briar Foltz, Jim Ports, Bryan Hamme, Craig Ryon, and Tyler Ryon.
