Obituary

David Ray VanCott, 76 of Hanover passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 15, 2024.

Born September 12, 1947 in Syracuse, NY, he was a son of the late Ray L. and Theresa (Cardarelli) VanCott.

Known to those closest to him as Dave, he was not only an exceptional engineer but also a loving husband and father whose presence brought warmth and joy to those around him.

Dave's devotion to his wife of 26 years, Betty Bell VanCott, was unwavering. Together, they shared a bond built on love, respect, and mutual support that endured through life's challenges and triumphs. Their union was a testament to the power of love, spanning 26 years of shared laughter, tears, and cherished memories.

As a stepfather to Betty's son, Joshua, Dave embraced his role with open arms and a generous heart. From their first meeting, Joshua recognized Dave's kindness and integrity, quickly forming a deep bond that transcended titles. To Joshua, Dave was more than just a stepfather; he was a constant source of guidance, support, and unconditional love. Their relationship was built on a foundation of mutual respect and understanding, with Joshua proudly and affectionately referring to Dave as "dad" throughout their lives together.

Dave's love for his family extended beyond words to actions, as he prioritized their happiness and well-being above all else. Whether it was attending school events, sharing meals together, or simply spending quality time as a family, Dave's presence filled their home with warmth and love.

Though Dave may no longer be with us in body, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he loved. His legacy as a devoted husband and father will continue to inspire and uplift, reminding us all of the profound impact one person can have on the lives of those they hold dear. Dave's memory will forever be cherished, his love forever cherished, and his legacy forever honored.

A committal service for David will be held in private by his family at his place of final rest in Columbia Memorial Park located in Clarksville, MD.
