Obituary

David P. Young, 83, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 11, 2025, at WellSpan York Hospital. He was the devoted husband of the late Dorothy L. (Nelson) Young, with whom he shared 58 loving years of marriage before her passing in 2022.

Born on October 27, 1941, in DeRuyter, New York, David was the son of the late Wilfred and Margaret (Porter) Young. He was raised in DeRuyter and later proudly served his country as a helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

After his military service, David settled in Zionsville, Pennsylvania, where he and Dorothy had began raising their family. A gifted mechanical problem-solver, David worked for several companies throughout his career, which took him across the country and around the world. No matter the complexity of the task, he was persistent and patient—never walking away until the job was done right.

David was known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering willingness to help others. He never asked for anything in return and was especially dedicated to supporting fellow veterans, understanding firsthand the struggles they often faced. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a faithful member of Arise! EFC Church, where he attended regularly.

He is survived by his children: Brett David Young and his wife Elsie of Quakertown, and Amy Lucinda (Young) Ruth and her husband Mike of Westminster; five grandchildren: Deven Young, Scott Young, Pearlyn Young, Alex Ruth, and Courtney Ruth; and one great-grandson, Lucas Mitchel. He is also survived by his brothers, Wayne Young and Lewis Young, along with many cherished extended family members and friends.

In accordance with David's wishes, there will be no public viewing. Following cremation, the family will have a Memorial Service on September 13, 2025 at 1pm at Arise! EFC Church, Hanover, PA. He will be laid to rest privately beside his beloved wife at Hillcrest Cemetery in DeRuyter, New York.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local Wounded Warriors, Roots for Boots or to your local veterans' organization.
