Donald Eugene Bankert, lovingly known as "Donnie," passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on September 23, 2026. He was 82 years old.

Born on December 10, 1943, in Hanover, Pennsylvania, Donnie was the only child of the late Eugene S Bankert and Sara Kathryn Bankert. He was a devoted and loving son.

Donald was a 1962 graduate of Southwest High School. He studied and became a draftsman until he retired early in life to pursue his true love of Antiques. He was an avid collector and antiques dealer. Donald’s impressive knowledge of treasures from years past was remarkably extensive. He was fortunate enough to enjoy doing what he loved best, attending estate sales and auctions looking for that special piece of history that others may have long forgotten. Donald also enjoyed owning properties and being a landlord. In recent years he owned a guest house in Gettysburg where he afforded families the opportunity to stay, in a lovely home that was less expensive than most guest houses in the area. He wanted people to enjoy the history of Gettysburg.

Apart from his antiques and homes, there was nothing Donnie was more devoted to than his mother. After the passing of his father in 1991, Donald cared for his mother, Kathryn. They enjoyed carrying on their antiquing traditions. When she became ill, he was determined to keep her at home and provide the absolute best care for her.

Donnie touched the lives of so many people in his 82 years and was happy to help anyone in need. When his life took a different path due to an extensive illness, he enjoyed spending his days with his peers and dedicated staff at Golden Visions Adult Day Care. He looked forward to winning bingo and coming home with all his prizes. He was grateful as well for his “extended family” and devoted caregivers that stood by his side in his time of need. Their love and devotion to him meant so much. He will be remembered with love.

In lieu of flowers, Donnie requested that memorial contributions be made to the Golden Visions Adult Day Care in Hanover, Pa and York/Hanover VNA Hospice Program.
