Donald "Donnie" B. Eltz, 88, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at UPMC Pinnacle Hanover. He was the loving husband of the late Nancy Ann Zeigler (Heiner) Eltz.
Born Tuesday, February 19, 1935, in Hanover, he was a son of the late Burnell F. and Ruth R. (Copenhaver) Eltz.
Donnie devoted an impressive 48 years of his life to Alloy Rods and ESAB, contributing his hard work and passion to the industry until his retirement in 2000. A proud Veteran of the US Air Force, Donnie served his country with honor and distinction. He was a former member of Lohr's Memorial United Methodist Church and a current member of Victory Baptist Church, where his faith continued to guide him.
In his leisure, Donnie found joy in the camaraderie of various social organizations, including the American Legion Post 14 in Hanover, the New Oxford Social Club, and the fellowship of friends at Raystown Lake. He cherished moments spent with his family, creating lasting memories that will forever echo his love.
Donnie was an avid traveler, embracing the wonders of the world, and a passionate supporter of Penn State football. His enthusiasm for life, love for family, and zest for new experiences will be remembered fondly by those who knew him.
Mr. Eltz is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Luckenbaugh of Hanover; stepson, Gregory Zeigler and his wife Vicki of Hanover, stepson, Stephen Zeigler and his wife Patricia of Ocean Pines, MD, stepson, Jeffery Zeigler and his wife Karen of Hanover; siblings, Phyllis Fry of New Oxford, Burnell F. Eltz, Jr. of Hanover, Philip Eltz of New Oxford, Michael Eltz of Gettysburg, Thomas Eltz of Hanover, and Patrick Eltz of Hanover; 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Mr. Eltz is also survived by many loving extended family members and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Donald was preceded in death by, daughter, Deborah Moyer, infant daughter, Donna Jane Eltz; stepdaughter, Pamela Noel, and two brothers, Jack and Calvin Eltz .
A service to celebrate the life of Donald B. Eltz will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA with Pastor Jason Myers officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Tuesday from 6-8 pm and then again on Wednesday from 10 am until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, with full military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veteran Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be, Logan Luckenbaugh, Courtney Luckenbaugh, Nick Zeigler, Eric Zeigler, Abby Cramer, and Gregory Zeigler.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Victory Baptist Church, 25 Breezewood Dr, Hanover, PA 17331.
