Obituary

Donald Lavere Luckabaugh, 88, of Hanover, entered God's eternal care on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at UPMC Hanover Hospital.

Born November 1, 1936, Donald was the son of the late Earl and Mary Catherine (Luckabaugh) Krepps. He was the loving husband to Marie Mae (Sterner) Luckabaugh with whom he shared 69 years of marriage.

Donald was a veteran and served his country proudly in the U.S. National Guard from 1954 to 1957.  Later, he worked at Black & Decker and Jenkins Precision Grinding.

In his free time, Donald enjoyed carp fishing, and in his earlier years, was a CB or ham-radio enthusiast. His CB handle was "Big Rooster". He had friends all over and reached out to people as far as Belgium. Most of all, Donald enjoyed spending time with his wife Marie. They loved going on road trips together, in which Marie would always be the map reader, and there are many beloved memories of "map quarrels" that took place during those trips that Donald and Marie could lovingly laugh about later. Together, they also enjoyed collecting salt & pepper shakers, and enjoying simple pleasures in life, such as birdwatching, looking at and appreciating the fish in their pond, and holding many special events, parties and family gatherings in their yard.

In addition to his wife Marie, Donald is survived by two sons, Patrick Joseph Luckabaugh and his wife Judy of Spring Grove, and Michael Harry Luckabaugh and his wife Jane of Hanover, as well as 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Donald also leaves behind one daughter-in-law Amanda Luckabaugh of Spring Grove. He was preceded in death by his son, James E. Luckabaugh.

A funeral service to celebrate and remember Donald's life will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Wetzel Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 549 Carlisle Street, Hanover, PA 17331. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery and the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard will present military honors. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be from 9:00-10:00 AM, Wednesday, also at the funeral home.
