Doris I. (Heller) Chronister, 88, of Aspers, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at UPMC Hanover Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late C. Eugene Chronister; together they shared 30 years of marriage before his passing in 1983.
Born on Friday, May 10, 1935, in Aspers, she was a daughter of the late Kermit E., Sr. and Blanche L. (Swope) Heller.
Doris's life was one of quiet dedication to the well-being of her family. A homemaker, she created a warm and nurturing environment where her children could thrive. Her hobbies included puzzles, bird watching, and gardening, each reflecting her appreciation for the intricate beauty of the world around her.
A devoted sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Doris's legacy is carried on through her children: Joyce "JoJo" Hardy and her husband George of New Oxford, Larry Chronister and his wife Diane of Aspers, and Betty Cease and her husband Stephen of Aspers; her brother, Kermit E. Heller, Jr. of Dillsburg, also survives her, along with six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who brought immense joy and pride to her life.
In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by three siblings, Wayne Heller, Clair Heller, and Evelyn Dorsey.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Doris will be laid to rest at Sunnyside Cemetery in York Springs, where she will be near her beloved Eugene once again.
The family suggests that those wishing to honor Doris's memory consider a donation to the National Kidney Foundation, a cause close to her heart, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, New York 10016.
