Obituary

Doris (Wunsch) Neilson, aged 90, of Hanover, departed this world peacefully on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at her residence, embraced by the love of her family. Doris was predeceased by her devoted husband, Peter G. Neilson, with whom she shared 52 beautiful years of marriage until his passing in 2007.

Born in Buffalo, NY, on December 4, 1933, Doris was the cherished daughter of the late Frederick C. and Anna (Creighton) Wunsch. A beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, Doris's life was a testament to her kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for those she loved. Her presence was a warm, comforting embrace, always ready to uplift or lend a helping hand.

Doris's adventurous spirit and love for travel led her to explore the vast corners of the world, visiting an impressive 192 of the 196 countries recognized by the United Nations. These journeys not only satisfied her curiosity but also enriched her understanding and appreciation of the world around her.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her sons, John P. Neilson, Richard W. Neilson and his wife Beth; her siblings, David Wunsch, Gretchen Bronke and her husband Bob, Karen Poprave and her husband Ken; and her grandchild and two great-grandchildren. Doris also leaves behind many loving cousins, nieces and nephews, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no public viewing. A private celebration of Doris's life will be held at the convenience of the family following her cremation.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the World Wildlife Fund at 1250 Twenty-Fourth Street, N.W., P.O. Box 97180, Washington, DC 20090-7180, in honor of Doris's love for nature and wildlife.
