Doris M.
Walther
Sep 6, 1929 — May 2, 2025
Doris M. (Metz) Walther, 95, of Allentown, formerly of Hanover and Jarrettsville, MD, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Legacy Place Cottages in Allentown. She was the devoted wife of the late Charles Anthony Walther. Together, they shared 54 loving years of marriage until his passing in 2002.
Born on September 6, 1929, in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Irene Amelia (Kahmer) Metz.
In her younger years, Doris was adventurous and full of life—she enjoyed bike riding, horseback riding, and spending time outdoors. As the years went on, she found joy in the simpler pleasures of life: listening to birdsong, admiring flowers, and being surrounded by nature. She had a special fondness for dogs, particularly poodles, and an even deeper love for her family. She enjoyed sharing the Bible's hope for the future with everyone. Doris was immensely proud to be a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished homemaker. She treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Doris is survived by her two daughters: Barbara Gardner and her husband Robert of Hanover, and Charlene Huber and her husband Paul of Noblesville, IN; eight grandchildren: Rachel, Deanna, Jessica, Jennifer, Kristen, Lindsey, Megan, and Natalie; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by her three sisters: Elaine Claypoole, Charlotte Price, and Elizabeth Connelly.
A graveside service to celebrate Doris's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, 200 E. Padonia Road, Timonium, MD. There will be no public viewing.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Doris' memory to the Charitable Care Fund at Legacy Place Cottages, 2051 Bevin Drive, Allentown, PA 18103, or visit online at: https://www.legacyplace.org/donate/.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Wetzel Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 549 Carlisle Street, Hanover, Pennsylvania, 17331.
