Elizabeth Hicks Funeral Service

Elizabeth (Betty) Hicks, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at UPMC Pinnacle Hanover.  She was born September 16, 1931 in Elizabeth, NJ to Stephen and Wilhelmina Wass.  She married the love of her life, David W. Hicks, in September of 1952.  He preceded her in death in 2010.  Together they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage.

Elizabeth was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and wife.  She had many amazing friends and loved to have them over for gatherings.  Her favorite time of year was Christmas, one of the special times of year when all her loved ones would gather around her for the holidays.

Over the years Mrs. Hicks worked at IFA Insurance, Bob Evans Insurance, and Chamberlain & Hobbie Law in Cranford, NJ.  In her free time, Elizabeth enjoyed doing counted cross stitch, knitting, gardening, cooking and getting involved in social groups through her church and out in the community.  She moved to SpiriTrust Lutheran - The Village at Utz Terrace, Hanover, PA with her husband in 2006 and has been a long-time member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Elizabeth is survived by a daughter, Susan M. Potocki and her husband John of Robbinsville, NJ, a son, Lawrence D. Hicks and his significant other Charlene Chasey of White Haven, PA; two grandsons, Kevin Murphy and his partner Tonya Kapalski of Hamilton, NJ, Jeffrey Hicks, his fiancé Aubrey McCullough and their daughter, Brynlee, of Farmingdale, NJ.

In addition to her parents and husband, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her sister, Eleanor Sorger.

Due to COVID-19 concerns, a private (invite only) service to celebrate the life of Elizabeth will be held with Pastor Todd Christine, of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating.  A video of the service will be available at www.wetzelfuneralhome.com on Thursday March 18, 2021, by clicking the link above Elizabeth's obituary.  Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.  Pallbearers will be Lawrence Hicks, Jeffrey Hicks, John Potocki and Kevin Murphy.
