Obituary

Dr. Elizabeth J. Schultz, 86, Ijamsville, MD, selected a beautiful spring day to journey to be with her Father in Heaven on Thursday, March 21, 2024. Her final weeks were spent at Homewood at Plum Creek, Hanover,PA, surrounded by her family.

Born on Wednesday, August 18, 1937, in Philadelphia, PA, Elizabeth was the cherished daughter of the late Charles G. and Maud E. (Burgee) Schultz. A testament to her brilliance and dedication, she graduated from Philadelphia High School for Girls in 1954, subsequently earning a doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 1962. Elizabeth's professional journey was remarkable, starting with a stint at the University of Maryland before founding Green Valley Animal Hospital in 1972. Her commitment to Gods creatures continued in her "retirement" after selling Green Valley Animal Hospital with the establishment of Urbana Animal Hospital in Urbana, MD.

Beyond her professional accolades, Elizabeth was a steward of the earth, working tirelessly the family farm in Ijamsville, MD. Her later years were marked by a passion for breeding and racing thoroughbreds, and she was a fervent rescuer of cats, pot-bellied pigs, and retired racehorses.  She never turned away an unwanted or abandoned animal. Elizabeth's life philosophy, "Find something you love to do, and you'll never work a day in your life," radiated through her actions and words, leaving an indelible mark on her family, who revered her for the joy and wisdom she shared. Hard work was not optional, it was an expectation when visiting the farm. She instilled a strong work ethic in us all. Time spent with loved ones is the most precious gift you can give or receive, a treasure that you will always have and can never be taken away.  Reflecting on her life, she shared, "I had a good life, and I wouldn't change anything." These words embody the essence of her journey, one marked by fulfillment, love, and an unwavering commitment to her calling.

Elizabeth's legacy is carried on by her sister, Gail D'Amico, and her husband, Dr. Donald D'Amico of Hanover, her six nieces and nephews, Donnagail D'Amico, Hanover, PA, Debbie D'Amico, Hanover, PA, Donald C. D'Amico, Chester Springs, PA,  Daniel D'Amico, Frisco, TX,  Denise Maxey, North Myrtle Beach, SC, and Dorinda Lehker, of Hanover, PA. She is also survived by  her 15 great-nieces and nephews, to whom she was affectionately known as "GABY" — a moniker she coined as an acronym for Great Aunt Betty. She also leaves behind a great-great-nephew, and

cousin Brenda Geibel Newman of Marietta, GA  alongside countless extended family members and friends who were touched by her generous spirit and love.

In alignment with her wishes, Dr. Schultz's passing will be observed with a private family service, followed by cremation. A public memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 3425 Green Valley Rd, Ijamsville,MD 21754. Her final resting place will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Ijamsville, MD where she will rest eternally along side her beloved mother.

A public memorial to celebrate her extraordinary life will be announced at a later date, inviting all who were touched by her presence to share in remembering a truly remarkable soul.
