Ethella D. (Gelwicks) Ballard, 83 of Hanover passed away peacefully at Hanover Hospital on Sunday, June 12, 2022.  She was the beloved wife of the late Joad L. Ballard, Sr., who passed away on May 21, 2006.

Born January 7, 1939 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Joseph C. and Pearl H. (Krenzer) Gelwicks.

Ethella worked for 6 years at the Mental Health Association of York County.  In her free time, she enjoyed scrapbooking.  Most of all, she adored her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ballard is survived by 4 children: Denese C. Fritz and her husband, Earl of Hanover, Deborah M. Kunetz and her husband, Mark of San Antonio, TX, Joad L. Ballard, Jr. and his wife, Katie of Mascoutah, IL and Joseph M. Ballard of Frederick, MD; 9 grandchildren: Kristina, Nicole, Danielle, Kaitlin, Ryan, Melissa, Emma, Jonas and Jessica; 7 great-grandchildren: Kaden, Gunnar, Indiana, Juniper, Esther, Riedar and Ruth, and 1 great-grandson on the way, baby-boy Fry, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and other family members.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 2 daughters: Daria Vier and Dawn Ballard, as well as 1 granddaughter, Sara Ballard.

A memorial service to celebrate Ethella's life will be held at 2pm on Saturday, July 9 ^th , 2022 at Wetzel Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.; 549 Carlisle St. in Hanover with Ethella's daughter, Deborah officiating.  A time to share memories and visit with the family will also be on Saturday from 1pm until the start of the service.
