Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Francis R. Boyle, Sr. 90, of Hanover, who departed this world on September 21, 2023, at UPMC Pinnacle in Hanover, Pennsylvania. He was born on October 10, 1932, in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, to his loving parents, Raymond Boyle and Katherine (Botts) Boyle. Francis leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and a deep devotion to his family.

Francis was a beloved father to seven children: Francis "Frankie" R. Boyle, Jr. and his fiancée Stacey of Hanover, Damon C. Boyle of Hanover, Robert D. Reinhardt of Denver, Colorado, Carol A. Viscoe and her husband Lenny of Seneca Falls, New York, Michael A. Reinhardt of Hanover, Lynne M. Leonard and her husband Paul of York, and Cassie E. Reinhardt of Hanover. His heart was enriched by the presence of ten cherished grandchildren and many adoring great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Raymond and Robert Boyle, and two sisters, Agnes Martino and Rose Marie Kling.

Francis will be remembered with a viewing to be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 549 Carlisle Street, Hanover, PA, starting at 2:00 PM. The funeral service will commence at 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Following the service, a private cremation will take place, honoring his wishes.

Francis was a man who lived life to the fullest, and his family was at the center of his world. He dedicated many years of hard work as a maintenance mechanic at Pillowtex, providing for his loved ones. His determination and love knew no bounds.

In addition to his work, Francis had a passion for softball that spanned generations. He mentored countless individuals in Hanover and York while playing the game he loved. Remarkably, he continued playing in the Harrisburg Senior Softball League until he was 88 years old. Francis proudly represented Pennsylvania in the PA Senior Games and the World Senior Games. His dedication to the sport inspired many.

Francis had a deep love for animals and found great joy in their companionship. He also had a daring side, having been a motorcycle drag racer in the 1960s, competing at venues in Reading and Thomasville Airport, among others.
