Garnet Maria (Arnold) Mummert, 59, of Glenville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at UPMC Hanover. She was the loving wife of Ralph H. Mummert; together they shared 23 years of marriage.

Born September 20, 1962 in Washington, DC, she was a daughter of Fridlind Ida Maria (Schueppel) Arnold and the late Manfred Bernhard August Arnold.

Maria was a loving wife, mother and devoted friend; she cherished helping people and would give the shirt off her back to a friend in need. Her passion for caring for people was illustrated in her career as a registered nurse; she devoted her professional career to helping the patients at Homewood at Plum Creek, the Brethren Home and at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where she cared for HIV patients without hesitation or fear. As a child Mrs. Mummert attended First United Methodist Church in Hanover and she had a passion and love for animals that carried over in to her adult life. Once she found an injured opossum on the side of the road and took it to the vet and when her horse, Heidi, was injured she not only changed the dressing every day but also slept in the barn next to the horse. In her free time, Maria enjoyed kayaking, traveling and going to the beach.

In addition to her husband and mother, Mrs. Mummert is survived by two sons, Daniel Mummert, Ralph Mummert, Jr; a sister, Dorothea Alexander and many loving extended family member and friends, who will miss her infectious laugh, generous spirit and ever-present sense of humor.

There will be no public viewing. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Maria will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2022 at Homewood at Plum Creek, 425 Westminster Rd, Hanover, PA with Rev. Joel Hummel officiating. A time to share memories with the family will be at Highland Taps & Tables, 925 Westminster Ave, Hanover, PA, following the service.
