Gary Lee
Deatrick
Dec 15, 1956 — Jan 18, 2026
Gary Lee Deatrick, 69, of Glenville, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 18, 2026. He was the devoted husband of Linda F. (Shoemaker) Deatrick, and together they shared 50 loving years of marriage.
Born December 15, 1956, in Hanover, Gary was the son of Janet L. (Kime) Deatrick of New Oxford and the late Charles H. Deatrick, Sr. Raised in New Oxford, he graduated from New Oxford High School, Class of 1974. It was at church where he met the love of his life, Linda, and just one year after high school they were married in September of 1975. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and simple joys.
Gary worked on the assembly line at Harley-Davidson, where he was proud of his work ethic and dedication until his retirement in 1987. Never one to sit still, he kept busy raising farm animals over the years, each one given a creative and often humorous name, a perfect reflection of Gary's playful sense of humor. He was a natural tinkerer, always working on projects around the house. He especially enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to fix things around the property. And if something couldn't be repaired the traditional way, Gary would keep at it until he "rigged it" to work anyway, usually with a grin and a joke along the way.
Gary loved the outdoors and could often be found watching the wildlife on his property. He had a deep affection for his dogs and cats, who were constant companions. In his quieter moments, he enjoyed playing video games, watching old movies, and faithfully tuning in to Moonshiners and Gold Rush. Above all else, Gary cherished time spent with his family and will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and steady presence.
In addition to his mother and wife, Gary is survived by his children, Andrew Deatrick of Manchester and Sarah Riedel and her husband Richard of Hutto, Texas; grandchildren, Kailey Gill, Aaron Deatrick, Maddox Deatrick, Susan Riedel, Ryland Riedel, Bradley Riedel, and Savannah Riedel; great-grandchildren, Cody, Jr. and James; and siblings, Carol Mayer, Charles H. Deatrick, Jr., and Larry Deatrick.
A service to celebrate Gary's life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle Street, Hanover, PA, with Rev. E. Robert Burkhart officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be held on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
