George R.
Zinn
Jan 11, 1932 — Jan 4, 2025
George R. Zinn, 92, of Westminster, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 4, 2025. He was the devoted husband of the late Linda M. (Zepp) Zinn, with whom he shared 51 years until her passing in 2024.
Born on January 11, 1932, in Hanover, George was the beloved son of the late George and Grace C. (Raber) Zinn.
George was a dedicated family man, cherishing every moment spent with his loved ones. His vibrant personality, quick wit, and infectious sense of humor brought joy to everyone around him. He was a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a loyal friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A proud Army veteran, George served his country honorably during the Korean War. Following his military service, he pursued higher education through the GI Bill, earning a degree in accounting from Strayer College. George's entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate several successful businesses throughout his life, including a bowling alley, restaurants, and gas stations.
George was an active member of his community, a Mason, and a former member of Monocacy Lodge #203 AF & AM. He found joy in life's simple pleasures and always had a way of bringing laughter and light to those around him.
He is survived by his children, Lisa Fritz and her husband Eddie of Glenville, PA, John Patrick Zinn and his wife Janie of Westminster, MD, and Chris R. Zinn and his wife Aubrey of Nottingham, MD; his stepdaughters, Michele Jones and her husband Jeffrey of Hudson, FL, and Sherry L. Flanagan and her husband Mark of Glenville, PA; his sister, Linda Funkhauser and her husband Tom of Hanover; as well as many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by his daughter, Dawn Wetzel, and two grandchildren, Derek Wetzel and Mia Zinn.
A celebration of George's remarkable life will take place on what would have been his 93rd birthday. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA, with Rev. Jono Contestabile officiating. The family will welcome friends for a time of sharing and remembrance beginning at 9 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, where the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to Roots for Boots (P.O. Box 213, New Oxford, PA 17350) or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105).
