Obituary

Gerald "Jerry" George Depp, 79, of York, entered God's eternal care Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Yorkview Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Born December 24, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Gerald was a son to the late George Rumbarger and Viola Margaret (Heck) Depp. He was the husband to the late Catherine Mary (Flynn) Depp with whom he shared 20 years of marriage until her death, November 3, 2009.

Jerry graduated in 1963 from South Hills High School in Pittsburgh, PA. Following high school, he enlisted and served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy.  Later, Jerry worked for the NSA for many years until his retirement, as a technical engineering specialist.

In his free time, Jerry loved watching the Pittsburgh Steelers play football. Earlier in life, he had been an avid fan of NASCAR as well. Most of all, Jerry enjoyed spending his time hanging out with his friends and enjoying good food together at the Moose Lodge.

Jerry was a member of the Hanover Moose Lodge #227.

Jerry is survived by 4 sons and 2 daughters: Michael George Depp of Germantown, MD, Ryan Edward Depp and his wife Elizabeth of Columbia, MD, Glen Alan Depp and his wife Sherilynn of Hanover, Allen Ford of Conway, SC, Sarah Helsel of Altoona, and Kelly Ford of Hanover. Jerry also leaves behind 9 grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert "Bob" James Depp.

Following cremation, services will be private. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery, Hanover.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions be made to a foundation that supports research and a cure for Multiple Sclerosis, such as the National MS Society at www.nationalmssociety.org or the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation at www.msfocus.org.
