Obituary

Gerald Murray Lippy, 86, of Hanover, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his home. Born December 23, 1939, in Hampstead, Maryland, he was the son of the late Murray A. Sr. Lippy and Verdella E. (Werner) Lippy.

Gerald devoted his life to public service, proudly serving the Hanover community for many years. He retired as Chief of Police for the Hanover Borough Police Department, where he was known for his integrity, steady leadership, and unwavering commitment to protecting and serving others. His dedication left a lasting impact on the community and earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and residents alike.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth "Liz" Lippy (née Yingling), with whom he shared many cherished years of marriage. Gerald is survived by his children and stepchildren: Kathleen Warner and her husband, Terry; April Lippy; Patricia Laughman; and Betty LeMaster. He was also preceded in death by his stepson, John Francis Laughman. Gerald was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought immense joy and meaning to his life.

In addition to his wife, Gerald was preceded in death by his siblings, Shirley Close, and Furman Lippy. He is survived by his siblings, Murray "Jr." Lippy and Lavern Kelbaugh.

Gerald will be remembered for his deep devotion to his family, his lifelong service to the community, and his strong sense of duty and honor.
