Gladys M.
Curry
May 2, 1943 — Nov 27, 2025
Gladys M. (Dell) Curry, 82, of Spring Grove, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at her home. She was the loving wife of the late James T. Lawyer for 15 years and later the late James L. Curry for 29 years.
Born May 2, 1943, in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Charles Earnest Dell and Margaret Elizabeth Dell (née Jacobs).
Before the onset of Alzheimer's, Gladys had a deep love for life. She enjoyed visiting relatives, traveling, making large pots of soup, and was especially known for her baking skills—most notably her delicious apple dumplings. She loved attending bingo, going to yard sales, playing cards and board games, enjoyed going out to restaurants, and camping. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family and loved having her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family around her. She will forever be missed by all who knew her.
Gladys worked for many years at Boden's Shoe and later cleaned homes and businesses before retiring.
Gladys is survived by her daughters, Brenda Lee Stambaugh of McSherrystown, Sharon "Shen" Hyser and her husband Brad of Spring Grove; a son-in-law, Steve Stremmel of Spring Grove; six grandchildren; many loving great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Gladys was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy May Stremmel; her son, James T. Lawyer, Jr., and his husband, Barry Hirneisen; her son-in-law, Kevin Curry; her brothers, Robert Dell, Paul Dell, Charles Dell, Vernon Dell, Melvin Dell, Donald Dell, and Jimmy Dell; and her sisters, Henrietta Wooters (Heavy), Florence Golden, Beatrice Diehl, Margaret Becker, Phyllis Simons, and Arlene Griffin.
A service to celebrate the life of Gladys will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover.
