Gladys M. George, 94, of Gettysburg and formerly of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 29, 2021 at Spirit Trust Lutheran, the Village at Gettysburg surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of James F. George, Sr. who died October 29, 1998.
She was born August 21, 1926 in Hanover, the daughter of the late Philip S. and Clara Virginia (Groft) Wright.
Mrs. George was employed at Revonah Spinning Mills, Hanover for 21 years, Nichols, Hanover for four years and Pharmhouse, Hanover for five years retiring in 1982. She attended Trinity Church of the Nazarene, Hanover.
She is survived by her children, James F. "Sam" George, Jr., Hanover, Retired Master Sergeant John W. George and wife Fay, Anniston, AL, David E. George, Hanover, Victoria M. George, Hanover and Sally A. Lovelace and husband Toby, Sr., Glenville; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Gloyd A. Wright and Philip S. Wright and sister, Margaret E. Luckenbaugh.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 10 AM at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle Street, Hanover, PA with Rev. E. Robert Burkhart officiating. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Friday, April 2, 2021 from 7 to 9 PM and again on Saturday from 9 AM until the start of the service both at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover.
Due to COVID-19 guidelines and in compliance with health and public safety directives, those attending the services will be required to wear a face covering and follow social distancing protocols. Attendance inside the funeral home will be limited. The service will be live streamed at www.wetzelfuneralhome.com . A link will be at the top of Mrs. George's obituary.
