Gladys M. (McKinney) Hughes, 95, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 12, 2021 at the Dove House in Westminster, MD. She was the loving wife of the late Malone Hughes; together they shared 42 years of marriage before his passing in 1989.

Born March 2, 1926 in Bakersville, NC, she was a daughter of the late William M. and Polly (Garland) McKinney.

Mrs. Hughes was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother; she cherished her family and loved spending time with them. Gladys was a faithful member of Paradisus Church of God in Thomasville and enjoyed attending church and having fellowship with other people. She had many hobbies that included, gardening, cooking, traveling and camping. In her younger years, Gladys worked at a greenhouse, a florist and also did some quilting.

Gladys is survived by five children, Brenda Rudisill of Westminster, MD, Sharon Baum of Lanham, MD, Gordon W. Hughes of Hanover, PA, Marvin M. Hughes of Hanover, PA, and Shirley Eisenhart of East Berlin, PA; 23 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren and many loving extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was preceded in death by two daughters, Sandra Ziegler and Elizabeth Laughman.

A service to celebrate the life of Gladys Hughes by family and friends will meet for viewing on Thursday, November 18, 2021, from 6 to 8 PM and also Friday morning at 10 AM.  The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 19, 2021 at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA with Rev. Richard M. Chronister officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul's Dubs Cemetery, Hanover, PA.
