Harlyn "Wayne"
Bruck
Mar 11, 1936 — Apr 18, 2023
Harlyn "Wayne" Bruck was received into the loving arms of our heavenly Father on April 18, 2023, after living with the challenges of Alzheimer's progression over the last few years.
Wayne was born in Cumberland, MD on March 11, 1936, and was the son of the late Robert W. Bruck and the late Mary "Evelyn" (James) Bruck. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Lee (Bruck) Benford and Dennis Helmick (her boyfriend and his care provider for months); his two granddaughters and their spouses, Danielle and David Christopher, and Erika and Mike Howington; his two step-grandsons, Brian Benford (and wife Christina) and Bradley Benford; and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three siblings: Carol Jean (Bruck) Willison, Albert Lee Bruck, and Mary Louise (Bruck) Logsdon (and husband Charles Ray Logsdon); and their descendants. Wayne is predeceased by his wife, Mabel (Backert) Bruck (October 12, 2022); his son-in-law Donald E. Benford; his brother-in-law (Carol's husband) Daniel Lee Willison; his sister-in-law (Albert's wife) Mary Beth "Betsy" (Van Scoyoc) Bruck.
Wayne lived for short times in various places in Maryland (Odenton, Essex, Dundalk) as a young person but considered his "home place" to be the home he spent time at in Hyndman, PA, built in 1894 and lived in by 4 generations. He loved walking the mountains, doing pencil sketches of wildlife, sledding and ice skating. He enjoyed hunting there with his dad and brother, Albert, every year as long as he was able.
Wayne married in 1956 and was a faithful husband to his wife, Mabel for 66 years. He was a devoted father to their only child, Sharon. Wayne and Mabel spent the last 28 years in their home in Hanover, PA. Previously they owned homes in Pleasant Hill, PA, Manchester, MD, and Baltimore, MD. They enjoyed occasional camping trips to Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park in Virginia in their younger years, taking care of lawn and flowers together, and traveling to see his extended family.
Wayne worked at Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. for 38 years from which he retired in 1994. He worked at Front St. Bldg. in Balto. City, Essex Serv. Ctr, Towson and Timonium locations. He worked as a tree trimmer, pole inspector, builder and inspector of power lines, time-keeper, and trainer. He loved his work and served faithfully to keep these areas safe.
Wayne was a humble man of great faith in God. He trusted Jesus for everything. He was a faithful member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Snydersburg, MD, where he was a loyal member of the choir for many years. He worked hard so his wife could stay at home. He loved his brother and sisters very much. He helped his father with the upkeep of their home place and helped care for his mother after his father passed, although they were 3 hours away. He walked the walk of a true Christian.
Wayne passed away peacefully at York North Skilled Nursing and Rehab. in York, PA. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at The Chapel – Littlestown, 1144 Bollinger Road, Littlestown, PA on Sunday, May 28 th at 3:00 p.m.
