Harry L. Humphries, Sr., 85, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at home. He was the loving husband of the late Jean D. (Ripple) Humphries; together they shared 50 years of marriage before her passing in 2007.
Born February 7, 1937 in Glen Burnie, MD, he was a son of the late Leonard F. and Millicent W. (Dodge) Humphries.
Mr. Humphries graduated from Glen Burnie High School in Glen Burnie, MD and then went on to enlist in the United States Navy; where he honorably served on the USS Harold J. Ellison DD864 for three years. Harry was a long-time member of Bethel Assembly of God in Littlestown. He owned various business starting in 1959 until 1985 when he opened his Midas Auto Service, which he owned until his passing. Harry loved traveling with Jean and going on various cruises around the world; he loved gardening, Labrador dogs, hanging out by the pool, BBQing and spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. Most of all Harry loved being around his family, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother; he cherished his family and friends and will be missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Humphries is survived by two children, Harry L. Humphries, Jr. of Virginia, Alice Poholsky and her husband Pete of York; two grandchildren, Samantha Ray Humphries and her husband Marty of Westminster, MD, Dorothy Jean Poholsky of York and one greatgrandchild, Braydon Jones of Westminster.
Harry is also survived by a brother, Dale Humphries; a sister, Ruth Wilfong and many other loving family members and friends. Harry was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jane Terry.
There will be no public viewing. Following cremation, a graveside service to celebrate the life of Harry L. Humphries, Sr. will be held at 1:30 pm on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at Rest Haven Cemetery located at the intersection of Boundary and Westminster Ave.., Hanover, PA with Rev. Garry Sheaffer officiating and full military honors rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
