Dr. Harry Suryakusuma passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022. Harry was born in Surabaya, Indonesia and grew up in Jakarta, Indonesia, where he met his wife of 46 years. He earned his medical degree from Trisakti University in Jakarta before coming to the US in 1976. Once in the US, he supported himself and his family while earning his Master's degree in Chemistry and PhD in Pharmaceutics.
Harry was a pharmaceutical scientist, professor, devoted husband, loving father, Opa and oldest brother of seven. Harry was incredibly smart, knowledgeable, giving, dependable and extremely handy. Whether he was building a computer, working on cars or doing woodworking, he always did it patiently with detail and care. He enjoyed keeping up with current events, traveling and had a great sense of humor. In his free time, Harry enjoyed badminton, volleyball and swimming.
He is survived by his wife, Meity Suryakusuma; daughter, Elaine Suryakusuma with spouse Lou Yeck and children, Nathan and Evan Yeck; and daughter, Diana Suryakusuma.
He is also survived by his siblings, Tries Suryakusuma and family, Ferry Suryakusuma and family, Henry Suryakusuma and family, Carry Suryakusuma and family, Robert Suryakusuma and family, and Rina Suryakusuma and family.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Juliani Suryakusuma and Andrey Suryakusuma.
A funeral service will be held Monday, May 9, 2022 at 11:30 AM at Gainesville United Methodist Church, 13710 Milestone Court, Gainesville, VA with Rev. John Patterson officiating. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Monday from 10:30 AM until the start of the service at the church
