Henry W. Sutherland, 85 of Hanover passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 20, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Mary K. (Leister) Sutherland. Together they shared 33 years of marriage.
Born April 17, 1936 in Cleveland, VA, he was a son of the late Henry and Beulah (Johnson) Sutherland.
Henry is fondly remembered as a hard worker. He was employed at Hanover Foods, Freeman Shoe and Masterbrand. After retiring, he went back to work at Walmart and Giant Foods. He also drove a school bus for Spring Grove and Southwest School District, and he especially enjoyed serving as an auctioneer. He was a lifetime member of Irishtown Fire Company. In his spare time, his passion was horses, of which he had a vast collection.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by 3 children: Kayann Smith and her husband, Dwaine, Kevin Sutherland and his wife, Kelly and Nicole Sutherland; 4 stepchildren: Michael Kimmey and his wife, Cathy of Hanover, Theresa Bingaman and her husband, Chris of Fayetteville, Karl Kimmey and his wife, Trisha of Four Oaks, NC and James Kimmey, Jr. and his wife, Stacey of Hanover, 2 siblings, Clyde Sutherland and his wife, Linda of Dover, PA and Ann Hayes and her husband, Richard of Alexandria, VA; 19 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, as well as many other loving family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his son, Michael Sutherland and his sister, Helen Warner.
A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Sutherland's life will be held on Monday, April 26 th at 11am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; 1170 Kohler Mill Rd.; New Oxford, PA 17350 with Bishop Brian Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Westminster, MD. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Sunday, April 25 th from 6-8pm at Wetzel Funeral Home & Crematory; 549 Carlisle St. in Hanover. Attendees to the viewing at the funeral home and the service at the church are required to wear facemasks and following social distancing protocols.
