Irl L. Therit, Jr., 63, of Hanover, passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, September 26, 2024. He was the devoted husband of Denise M. (Wonder) Therit, with whom he celebrated 40 wonderful years of marriage on August 25, 1984.

Born on May 8, 1961, in Hanover, Irl was the cherished son of the late Irl Leonard Therit, Sr. and Mary L. (Loder) Therit-Swiger. He was a man known for his wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh that could light up any room. Irl had a passion for cars, owning and operating his own auto repair shop, Therit's Auto Repair, for 40 years. His expertise and willingness to help others endeared him to many in the community.

Irl was a true family man who loved his children unconditionally. He was always there to support them, providing a steady presence in their lives. His love for his grandchildren was evident in the joy he took in celebrating their birthdays, particularly when it came to enjoying large pieces of cake at their parties.

A lover of racing, Irl spent countless hours at Lincoln Speedway, where he relished the thrill of the sport. His playful sarcasm and knack for storytelling made him a beloved figure among friends and family alike. He was always ready with a joke, making everyone around him feel special and appreciated.

In addition to his wife, Denise, Irl is survived by his daughters, Tracy Hull of Hanover and Kelly Therit of York; his sons, Brian Therit of Hanover and Joshua Therit, along with his companion Laken Tolbert, of Hanover; and his sisters, Tina Shultz of New Oxford, Jody Therit of New Oxford, Lori Therit of New Oxford, and Beth Therit, along with her companion Dave Lake of Dover. Irl also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Devin and Tyler Topper of York, and Lianna and Leigha Therit, Noah Majczuk all of Hanover, as well as many loving extended family members and friends.

A service to celebrate Irl's life will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA, with Rev. Don Wolabaugh officiating. Family and friends are invited to share memories during a viewing on Tuesday from 5-8 PM and again on Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be private. Following the service at the funeral home, there will be a luncheon at Harvest Chapel, 6947 York Rd, Abbottstown, PA 17301, from 12-3 PM.
