Irvin L. "Irv" Arter, 81, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 5, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family.  He was the loving husband of Jerrie A. (Bartol) Arter, Hanover. Together they shared 16 years of marriage.

Born July 25, 1939 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Lester A. Arter and Treva L. (Sterner) Laughman.

Irv attended Eichelberger High School with the class of 1957 and was the owner and operator of Kess Body Shop, Hanover for many years.  An avid bowler, he had a high score of 299 and although he tried many times, that perfect 300 score eluded him.

He was a member of the Hanover Body Shop Association and the Hanover Elks Lodge #763.  Irv enjoyed "getting lost" on Sunday drives and stopping for ice cream.  He also enjoyed wood working, working on his project cars, reading and going out to eat.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Irvin L. Arter, Jr. and wife Patricia, Rock Hill, SC, Karen Kuhn and husband Albert, Hanover, Andrew Arter and wife Julie, Hanover and Daniel Arter and wife Jennifer, Hanover and his children's mother, Martha G. Arter, Hanover; step-children, Troy Bartol, Maryland, Scott Bartol, Maryland and Penny Wilson and husband Ed, Hampstead, MD; sister, Janice Beaver and husband Robert, Hanover; brother, David Laughman, Taneytown, MD; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and his loving dog and traveling companion, Peppy.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Arter.

A private funeral service will be held at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle Street, Hanover with Rev. Interment will be in Marburg Memorial Gardens, Hanover.  Serving as pallbearers will be Irvin Arter, Jr., Andrew Arter, Daniel Arter, Douglas Arter, Christopher Arter and Riley Arter.  Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Arter, Adam Arter, Alex Arter and Albert A. Kuhn.
