Jack M.
Hayes
Oct 17, 1934 — Nov 28, 2024
Jack M. "Ticky" Hayes, 90, of Westminster, MD, passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28, 2024, at Atlee Skilled Nursing in Westminster. Born on October 17, 1934, in York, Pennsylvania, Jack was the beloved son of the late Jordan M. Hayes and Dora M. Hayes Groft (née Sipe).
Jack was the devoted husband of the late Norma Jean Hayes (née Sheaffer), his cherished partner of 60 years, who preceded him in death in 2011. Together, they built a loving family and life full of shared memories.
He is survived by his two sons, Charles M. Hayes of Littlestown, PA, and Stephen D. Hayes of Westminster, MD, with whom he resided. Jack's legacy also includes five adoring grandchildren Melissa, Jason, Amanda, Leah, and Jordan and seven treasured great-grandchildren Kyrsten, Aleasia, Hayley, Brayden, Madeline, Megan, and Sadie.
Jack's professional life was spent in the textile industry, where he retired in 1995 from Weave Corporation in Denver, PA. However, his retirement was anything but quiet. A two-time cancer survivor, Jack found a new calling as a motivational speaker, passionately educating school-aged children about the dangers of smoking and inspiring countless lives through his courage and story of survival.
Faith was a cornerstone of Jack's life. He was a member of the former Trinity United Methodist Church in York, PA, and later Pasadena United Methodist Church in Pasadena, MD.
Beyond his devotion to family and faith, Jack had a vibrant range of hobbies that brought joy to his days. He was an avid collector of coins and stamps, an admirer of Native American art, and a skilled craftsman with talents in furniture making, woodworking, and painting. Jack's love for Reese's Peanut Butter Cups was legendary among his family and friends, bringing a touch of humor and sweetness to his memory.
In accordance with Jack's wishes, there will be no public viewing. Following cremation, a joint graveside service for Mr. and Mrs. Hayes will be announced at a later date. The family has entrusted Wetzel Funeral Home & Crematory with his arrangements. For updates on service details, please visit www.wetzelfuneralhome.com.
