James M. Baker, 77 of Hanover passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, May 15, 2023. He was the dedicated and loving partner of Barbara Lewis.
James , fondly known as Jim, was born to Teddy and Mildred Baker, on January 18, 1946, in Hanover, PA. He graduated from Eichelberger High School and RETS Electronics School in Philadelphia. He was also a member of the Hanover Lyric Band. After graduating, Jim and his wife, Bonnie, moved to NY where he took a job at IBM Endicott. They raised 3 daughters, Lorie, Jeanette, and Danielle. While working full-time, he continued his education at Wilkes University earning a degree in Environmental Engineering. In retirement, Jim loved the challenge of managing rental properties. He enjoyed being outdoors working in the garden and landscaping their backyard. Barb and Jim enjoyed traveling cross-country in their RV, spending winters in the south and visiting family. He was an active member of the Moose Lodge and the Elks Club. He also enjoyed karaoke or hosting family reunions at their home. He was the "life of the party" and always willing to share his advice with anyone who would listen.
Jim is survived by his dedicated and loving partner, Barbara Lewis. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Baker of Hanover and his wife Carole, nieces Cheryl and Tanya, and nephew Lance. Jim will be sadly missed by his daughters Lorie, Jeanette, and Danielle. He will be fondly remembered as "Grandpa" by granddaughters Allison, Amanda, Grace, and Claire.
A funeral service to celebrate James' life will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, May 20 th at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory; 549 Carlisle St. in Hanover with Rev. Mike Mayton officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be from 9am until the start of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hanover.
