James L. "Jim" Monath, 83 of Westminster, MD passed away peacefully at Encompass Health in York on Friday, July 11th, 2025. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to Nancy C. (Cooper) Monath whom he married on December 4, 1965.
Born September 2, 1941 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Clinton H. and Myrna G. (LeGore) Monath.
Mr. Monath was a faithful lifelong member of St. David's United Church in Hanover where he sang in the choir, served on the consistory and was Sunday School Treasurer. He was also known to be a skilled craftsman and was always working with his hands, using his mechanical talents. Additionally, Jim was a weather enthusiast, keeping detailed weather records spanning many decades.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by three children: James Monath, Jr. and wife Toni, Andrew Monath and Jennifer Fisher and husband Dale; three grandchildren: Jordan Fisher-Blotter and husband Samuel, Josie Monath and Daniel Fisher; one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Blotter, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Wentz and Darlene Monath.
A funeral service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at 11am on Tuesday, July 15th at St. David's United Church of Christ; 142 Hobart Rd.; Hanover, PA 17331 with Rev. Scott Sager officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Monday, July 14th from 7-9pm at Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc.; 549 Carlisle St. in Hanover, and again at the Church on Tuesday morning from 10 am until the start of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. David's United Church of Christ at the above address.
