Janet M. Black, 76, of Hanover, passed peacefully on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at UPMC Pinnacle, Hanover. She was the loving wife of W. Raymond Black, III. Together they would have shared 58 years of marriage on February 3, 2019.
Born October 21, 1942 in West Reading, PA she was the daughter of the late John M. and Jeanette M. (Bechtel) Eidam.
Janet was an active member of Grace United Church of Christ, Hanover. She served as a girl scout leader and cub scout den mother when her children were growing up. She was also a past member of the Hanover Jaycees. Janet was very involved as a member of the Hanover Exchange Club where she served as secretary for more than 20 years. She helped coordinate the Hanover Christmas parade many times and was recognized with her husband Ray as "Grand Marshalls" of the Hanover Halloween Parade in 2017. Janet was well known in the Hanover community after working the voting polls for Hanover's 3 rd ward for more than 30 years.
In addition to her husband Ray, Janet is survived by four children; Elizabeth A. Anderson of Carlisle, Jeffry R. Black and his wife Tina of New Oxford, Susan J. Dienes of Mechanicsburg and Kathie L. Wakefield and her husband Martin of Palm Harbor, FL; four siblings, Jeanette Martin of Reading, PA, Jacqlyn Lash of Mohnton, PA, Judy Kuhns of Missouri and John Eidam of Virginia Beach, VA; also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Janet Black will be held at 11:00am Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019 at Grace United Church of Christ, 100 Fourth St., Hanover, PA with Rev. Bonnie J. Whittier officiating. A time to express condolences and share memories with the family will be on Saturday from 10am until the time of the service at church. Final committal will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover.
