Janet Shearer Houser, 86, of New Oxford, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 16, 2022 at Cross Keys Village Brethren Home Community. She was the loving wife of Dale C. Houser; together they shared 64 years of marriage.

Born September 17, 1935 in Lewistown, PA, she was a daughter of the late Herbert M. and Mary C. (Thatcher) Shearer.

Janet was a loving wife, mother and grandmother; she cherished her family and loved attending family parties and get-togethers. Mrs. Houser was very active in the community and a member of the Messiah Methodist Church in W. Springfield, VA, the West Springfield Civic Association, and the Women's Club of Springfield where she was the Home and Life Chairman. She was especially proud of her work with the Layette Program, which provided welcome baskets filled with baby outfits, blankets, and supplies to underprivileged new mothers. In her free time, Janet enjoyed knitting, crocheting and doing crafts.

In addition to her husband, Janet is survived by three children - Jennifer S. (Houser) Hill and her husband Roger of Havertown; David K. Houser and his wife Julie of North Yorkshire, England; and Julie (Houser) Russell of Denver, CO.  Janet  has seven grandchildren - Corona Hill, Owen Houser, Benn Houser, Christopher Williams, Tim Williams, Tiffany Russell and Brandon Russell.

In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by a sister, Emilie Campbell Winstead.

A service to celebrate the life of Janet will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA with Pastor Linda S. Tizell officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 in Sky-View Memorial Park, 108 Lafayette Ave, Tamaqua, PA 18252 with Pastor Tim Getz officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
